About

Hello, world! I’m Gabriel, a computational researcher from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Curiosity and a drive to do good in the world are my two defining features. In May 2023, I graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, California with a computer science major and a philosophy minor. In September 2023, I began a full-time research position at the National Renewable Energy Lab — now known as the National Lab of the Rockies — near Golden, Colorado, where I’ve developed techniques for designing more climate-friendly electrical grids through a combination of modern machine learning and classical numerical and symbolic optimization.

I’m currently an AI safety researcher on a LASR Labs fellowship extension funded by a £190k/$260k grant from Coefficient Giving. My London-based team, mentored by Stefan Heimersheim (Apollo Research, FAR.AI, Google DeepMind), is testing the robustness of LLM interpretability techniques through more realistically trained model organisms of misalignment. Our first paper has been accepted to the 2026 ICML Mechanistic Interpretability Workshop; you can find our most recent draft here.

I’ve been applying my computational skills for social good for years now, with previous positions at the University of Minnesota, NextEra Analytics, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. I’m also a skilled and passionate teacher, having served as a TA for six classes throughout my undergraduate career. I spend my free time hiking, rock climbing, playing board games, and exploring Wikipedia.
